Performance project
In collaboration with eight participants from different cultural backgrounds, the artist Yingmei Duan has created a performance art project that spans the multifaceted theme of family in a multi-layered spatial ensemble. The project combines a variety of media on the theme of “HOME”. In addition to videos and photographs, it also includes painting, and live performance. All the works in different spaces are composed as a “Multimedia Interactive Performance Installation”.
Yingmei has realised a video film with each participant (duration: 5-20 minutes). For each video, there is a corresponding object to interact with.
The film “Recipe for a Cosmopolitan” tells the story of Sophie Delest growing up in the devoted care of her single mother in Poland.
In “The True Core”, Türkan Deniz-Roggenbuck kneads dough for a Turkish meal while telling of her search for her own identity.
In the film “Julia”, Julia Streitberger talks about her relationship with her father, whom she didn’t contact until she was 16, but has not yet met in person.
In the video “Family Constellation”, Kristov Knörzel documents the conversation between Julia Streitberger and Yingmei Duan in ironic, associative images.
The film “Belongings” tells the story of how Kadir Özdemir grew up in Turkey with his mother while his father worked in Germany. It was only later that father and son grew closer and more intimate.
In “Nizar”, Nizar Fahem presents his photograph works with autobiographical information added to it.
“Distant and Dreams” is a story about a doll’s dream. This dream symbolically processes/express the relationship between Olga Georg and Yingmei Duan and their parents.
The film “No One Believes Me” shows Nick Meeter singing and writing notes with messages to his parents. In the end, the notes with the messages end up in the cooking pot.
